RBK 50 Cent Advert:
This advert uses a range of aspects which make it very successful. The advert denotes a sports advert promoting a product. The connotation linking to this advert is that it is an advert aimed at people with rough backgrounds who want to change this and hopefully start fresh prosperous futures. 50 Cent, having once been a criminal himself who chose to turn his life around can be seen as the perfect subject for this advert. The colours used in this advert are dull and gritty. A lot of meaning is perceived within the advert. The colour scheme, creates a pessimistic mood yet also empowering due to the strong facial expressions on 50 Cent's face. This suggests that this is more than just an advert, but also a message to be proud of who you are, to leave the past behind and see a new future. This type of colour scheme creates dark and gloomy connotations. There isn't much contrast between the pitch black background behind the subject, and the grainy parchment paper background.
The framing in this advert is fixated on the subject's face and writing. When first observing this advert, we instantly draw our attention to the subject's face and this is all down to the framing. It captivates our attention on what is going on in the advert whilst also promoting the brand. Nonetheless, the composition of the advert is symmetrical as the page design has been equally split in half, showing both sides of the story. The shape/size of the advert is a rectangle and it is fairly easy to see. The writing is clear and so is the image of the star. The advert consists of a close up of 50 Cent as well as a close up of the fingerprint background. In terms of lighting, low-key lighting is used as there is a clear contrast between light and dark which creates dramatic shadows such as the way 50 Cent's face almost camouflages into the background. This effect is also known as Chiaroscuro (light and dark). The fact that 50 Cent's face merges with the pitch black background, may suggest that he is proud of being black and also proud of being himself. The lighting creates an empowering and serious atmosphere however, the shadows around his eyes may suggest that he could still be a criminal and that he still commits malicious sins. It makes one question weather the past defines who you are today or the past changes you completely forever. This advert is shot from a straight angle and is a medium shot. The star is posing by standing up and looking straight into the camera. He seems to be concentrating on the reader whilst also trying to convey his message through direct address. The subject matter of the advert is to inform society that you should think before you do something. Be cautious of your actions as they could have a knock on affect on your future. The producers of the advert deliberately use celebrity endorsement to get 50 Cent's message across on a much deeper level. I assume RBK must be selling clothes as the clothes that 50 Cent is wearing seem to stand out. I believe the photograph was taken in a studio. This is because the back drop was most likely a roll of pitch black paper and the fingerprint background was also edited in.

Denotation: There is a woman wearing a red tiger print shirt, holding a jug of milk whilst pouring it into the cereal with a slogan saying ' Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes'
Connotation: The cereal is propped directly in the middle of the table connoting it's significance and dominance.
Colour: The bright colours used instantly grab the readers attention. The image is very colourful and appealing to look at. The bright red background as well as the red tiger print shirt, merge together drawing attention straight to the woman.
Pose: The woman is sitting up straight. She seems quite intrigued ad joyous to promote the product.
Framing: Placing the cereal bowl directly in the middle makes it the centre of attention. The bold red writing of 'Kellogg's' also stands out. This makes the reader more aware of the brand. Everything is quite centre suggesting the importance of the product.
Type of shot: The camera angle is centre focus.
Subject matter: The constant colour of red shows how everything is linked. The woman is promoting the cereal and where it says ' let the lady be a tiger' it entices one to buy the cereal as it can be seen as a maternal loving thing where a mother has a jug of milk and cereal ready to kick-start your day. The use of creative words also catches the readers attention. By repeating the 'Rs' in 'Gr-r-reat' heightens the relevance of the tiger and the 'eat' also commands one to buy the product.
Setting: The setting seems like a normal 1960s home where the mother is the 'homemaker' who has a bowl of tasty cereal ready for the kids.
Lighting: High-Key lighting is created using the key and filler light. This High-Key lighting makes the image more appealing to look at. The dusty/grainy tones in the colours makes the image look vintage.
